New Zealand and Japan

There are some differences between the custom of New Zealand and the custom of Japan.


Trains and busses in Japan run on time. They rarely arrive behind time and Japanese think it is natural. However, trains and busses in New Zealand often arrive behind time. People in New Zealand don’t care about it. I think many Japanese will surprised at it and think it is not punctual. The sense of time may different.

People in New Zealand don’t wash the dishes with water after they removed dirt from the dishes with a detergent. They only wipe the dishes. I think this custom doesn’t agree with Japanese because Japanese wash the dishes with water every time.

Many people in New Zealand don’t hold an umbrella. It rains in a short time in New Zealand and it doesn’t rain all day like Japan. Japanese take an umbrella if it rains or it is cloudy and it is likely to rain.

The History of Bonfire Night

I’m going to talk about the history of Bonfire Night. Bonfire Night comes from the Gunpowder Plot, which was an attempted incident to overthrow the government in England. The Gunpowder Plot was planed by Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes cooperated with him. They planted gunpowder under the government and tried to carry out the plot and kill the king of England, James I, by exploding gunpowder. However, part of the plot was told by someone. At first they hesitated to carry out the plot but Guy Fawkes decided to continue it.

Finally he was arrested and executed before carrying out the plot. Bonfire Night is also called “Guy Fawkes Day” after his name. The Welsh think of him a criminal who tried to kill the king but the Scots think of him a hero who fought for freedom.

Autumn Festival

Octoberfest is a famous and one of the grandest festivals in the world. It is held from the middle of September to the beginning of October in Munich in Germany. More than six million people visit there from around the world during the festival. The festival has been held every year since 1810. Thousands of people wear traditional folk costume and parade the street, the center of Munich. Visitors drink special beer which was brewed up by brewers in Munich and eat sausages, barbecued chickens, tails of oxen, and traditional foods and so on in the beer tent. The beer tent is very large. People say “Prost!” and dance with music all the day. In the festival, there are many booth and attractions. We can enjoy riding on the corkscrew and the traditional merry-go-round. It is like amusement grounds. In the booth, cotton candy and roast almond are sold, so we can buy and eat it. Of course various beers are sold there by local brewers. In addition to that we can enjoy a brass band’s performance and buy souvenirs, specialties of Munich, balloons, and mascots and so on.
Because Octoberfest is amusing and cheerful I would like to go to Germany and take part in the festival.

My Favorite Movies

My favorite movie is “Back to the Future”. This movie was filmed in 1985. Its story is about a high school student and a doctor of science; Marty and Brown. In America in 1980s, Dr. Brown invented a time machine, and Marty went back to America in 1950s by the machine. Marty met his father and mother, who were high school students, but he almost changed the past. If the past had changed, it would be serious. He also met Dr. Brown and talked over with him how to go back to 1980s. Finally, they came up with the idea that Marty goes back to the future by using the thunder which would strike the clock tower.

I also like “Home Alone”. The story is about a boy and two thieves. A boy whose name is Kevin lives with a large family. In Christmas Eve, his family went to Paris but Kevin was left alone in his house by mistake. At first he was surprised because there were nobody in his house when he had woke up, but he took advantage of this and did whatever he liked. On the night, when Kevin was watching TV, two thieves came to his house to steal some money because they thought Kevin’s family was out and there were nobody there. Kevin was scared of them but finally he decided to repulse them on his own!

These movies are very exciting, so would you like to see “Back to the Future” and “Home Alone”?

Summer Vacation

In this summer vacation, I met my friends who have been on good terms with me since we are kindergartner. We were planning to set off fireworks and I was looking forward to meeting them. But when I went to a friend’s house, it began to rain. It was unhappy. We couldn’t set off fireworks, so we went to a restaurant and enjoyed talking. We talked each other about collage life and reminiscence and so on. I was sorry we couldn’t set off fireworks but talking with them was very exciting. I want to set off fireworks next year and hope that it won’t rain.

I went to the driving school during this summer vacation. I went there by my bicycle almost everyday. It is near my house, so I could go there for about five minutes. At first, I thought it was difficult for me to drive a car, but gradually I came to enjoy driving. I was good at parallel parking. Teachers were very kind and I enjoyed talking with them. In September, I went to Hirabari to take the graduation examination. I was nervous, but I passed the exam and got a driver’s license. I was very happy!

Balance Ball

An balance ball is used in physical therapy and exercise. Benefits of exercising with an balance ball is improving poor blood circulation, backache, easing tiredness, burning fat and so on. We can develop our muscles and fix contortion of our body by only balancing on a balance ball. We can also diet with it when we watch TV, so we can enjoy dieting. Some people use it instead of a chair because it makes us keeping good posture. A balance ball is very good for our health.

There are various ways of exercising with a balance ball.

Hamburger

Hamburger is one of fast foods. Fast food means foods which can be made and eat easily. We can buy it at hamburger shops whenever we want to. Hamburger is delicious, so many people like it. I also like hamburger and I often eat it, but hamburger is said that it is not good for our health. Because hamburger is high calories, eating it sometimes causes life-style related disease.

In 2004, the documentary movie "SUPER SIZE ME" was released. In this story, the director of this movie ate only hamburgers and another foods in McDonald's for a month, and he recorded how fast foods influence his health. I have never seen this movie, but I think it tells people whether fast foods is really bad for our health or not.
